COCOA, Fla. — The family of 31-year-old Tashaun Jackson says they're one step closer to closure, and they're confident that police will find who's responsible for her death.

Sh’Mika Scott-Devoe, Jackson's cousin, says that although it's frustrating not knowing all the details, she understands that withholding information right now is the right thing.

"We understand how important it is for them (investigators) to keep details away from us, so when it goes to court, we want to make sure they get a conviction," Scott-Devoe says.

The body of Jackson, a mother of four who had been missing for about a week, was found in a remote area of east Osceola County on Friday.

Sharon Jones-Smith, Jackson's aunt, said the family is putting its trust in law enforcement — something it says was hard to do at the beginning.

"At this point in the case, I believe they are taking it serious, and they are doing what they need to get this case solved," Jones-Smith said.

The family is also grieving the loss of Jackson's father, Charles. He was hit by a car while riding a bicycle less than an hour after finding out his daughter was found dead.

"We are planning on doing a double funeral. Her and her father were very close connected in a way we can't even explain," Jones-Smith said.

They think Jackson's disappearance could be connected to a deposition she gave two weeks ago in an attempted rape case. Over the weekend, there were police at the attempted rape suspect's home. Police wouldn't confirm whether that was related to Jackson's death investigation.

"Being patient is all we can do in this situation. Then we are going to hold up our end of the deal. We are going to be patient. We are going to wait for them to tell us, because we want to make sure they pay for this," Scott-Devoe said.

The family said after the autopsy report is completed, they will start planning the joint funeral that will be open to the community.
