ORLANDO, Fla. -- The man who authorities say was involved in a gunfight on Challenger Parkway and Alafaya Trail on Thursday afternoon has been identified.

Jonathan Bryant, 35, was the driver of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler that Orange County Sheriff's deputies say was involved in the shootout that included a white Nissan Altima, which is still at large.

The people in the two vehicles were chasing each other and exchanging gunfire on Challenger Parkway, close to Alafaya Trail, when the Jeep crashed, according to officials.

Bryant was hit by a bullet and lost control of the Jeep, which was traveling southbound on Alafaya Trail, went over the center grass median and into the northbound lanes, where it struck the left side of a 2002 Acura and then crashed head-on into a 2015 Dodge Journey.

Bryant was taken to Florida Hospital East, where he was pronounced dead.

His passenger, 26-year-old Robert Ashe IV, ran off but was captured by a Florida Highway Patrol trooper who was in the area at the time of the gunfight.

Ashe, who was not injured, is cooperating with the investigation, as detectives now look for two men thought to have been in the white Nissan Altima.

The Sheriff's Office said he is not a suspect in this case, but he was arrested on an unrelated outstanding warrant.

No description was given for the men being sought, but authorities described the gunbattle as a targeted attack.

The driver of the Acura and occupants of the Dodge Journey were not injured.

There were five children, ages 1 through 14 years old, in the Dodge during the gunfight, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

"I saw the car go out and hit a car, basically, and I saw a guy jump out and run and people run over there," witness Jeanette Kelly said.

Anyone who can provide information on the case is asked to call Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477). Callers to Crimeline can remain anonymous.
