ORLANDO, Fla. – Universal Orlando plans to make another change to its face mask policy.

  • Update clarifies which type of masks are permitted

  • Gaiters are allowed if they cover the nose and mouth

  • Employees and visitors are required to wear masks at Universal

The updated policy, which is set to take effect August 3, further clarifies which type of face masks are permitted at the resort.

Necks gaiters are allowed at Universal Orlando so long as “it covers your nose and mouth,” the policy reads. That’s in contrast to the policy at Disney World, which deems gaiters as unacceptable face coverings.

Universal also specifies in the updated policy that bandanas are not permitted.

“Face coverings that are unable to be secured under your chin, such as bandannas, are not permitted,” according to the policy.

Just last week, Universal changed its policy in regards when visitors could remove their masks at the theme parks and CityWalk.

“Guests must wear face coverings at all times, unless they are actively eating or drinking, and they must also be socially distanced from other travel parties while consuming their food or beverage,” the policy read.

The change effectively closed a loophole visitors used to keep their masks off while walking around the parks. Since reopening in early June, Universal has required both employees and visitors to wear face masks at the resort. Other new health and safety measures include temperature checks, social distancing protocols and capacity limits.
