The following is a list of emergency shelter locations in Central Florida:

Orange County

The following shelters in Orange County will open Wednesday for residents needing to evacuate or seek shelter from Hurricane Ian (ID cards are not required to enter shelters):

  • Apopka High School opens Wednesday at 8 a.m. (Pet Friendly)
  • Ocoee High School opens Wednesday at 9 a.m.
  • Dr. Phillips High School opens Wednesday at 9 a.m.
  • Oak Ridge High School opens Wednesday at 9 a.m. (Pet Friendly).
    • This shelter has reached capacity.
  • Timber Creek High School opens Wednesday at 9 a.m. (Pet Friendly)
  • Timber Springs Middle School opens Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. 
  • Southwest Middle School opens Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.

Brevard County

Brevard County will open three shelters at 10 a.m. Wednesday for residents who live in flood-prone or low-lying areas needing safe harbor from potentially dangerous wind and water conditions anticipated from Hurricane Ian, which is expected to begin impacting the county some time Wednesday afternoon into Thursday.

The following shelters will be pet-friendly and available for our special needs and general population:

  • Max K. Rodes Community Center, 3410 Flanagan Ave., West Melbourne, FL 32904
  • Walter Butler Community Center, 4201 N Cocoa Blvd., Cocoa, FL 32927
  • Wickham Park Community Center, 2815 Leisure Way, Melbourne, FL 32935

Space Coast Area Transit will provide transportation to the shelters for registered special needs clients.

Although shelters will provide food, residents going to shelters will need to take their own supplies, including bedding, folding chairs, or sleeping bags; any needed medications; multiple changes of clothing and and sturdy shoes; personal hygiene items; and entertainment items, like games, cards, books or magazines.

Osceola County

The Osceola County Special Needs Shelter opened Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Council on Aging, located at 700 Generation Point, Kissimmee, FL 34744.

Please remember that individuals staying at the special needs shelter should bring medicine and other vital supplies including oxygen or other electric medical devices. For more information, please call the Osceola County Special Needs hotline at 407-742-9001.

Osceola County’s three general-population shelters opened at 2 p.m. Tuesday:

  • Celebration High School – 1809 Celebration Blvd., Celebration, FL 34747
  • Kissimmee Middle School (Pet-Friendly) – 2410 Dyer Blvd., Kissimmee, FL 34741
  • Harmony High School - 3601 Arthur J Gallagher Blvd., St Cloud, FL 34771

An additional two shelter locations will open at 8 a.m. Wednesday:

  • Narcoossee Middle School – 2700 N Narcoossee Road, St. Cloud
  • Liberty High School (Pet-Friendly) – 4250 Pleasant Hill Road, Kissimmee

 

Volusia County

Volusia County Schools and Volusia County Government will open four shelters at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

General population shelters are:

  • Mainland High School, 1255 W. International Speedway Blvd., Daytona Beach
  • DeLand High School, 800 N. Hill Ave., DeLand

Special needs shelters are:

  • Atlantic High School, 1259 Reed Canal Road, Port Orange
  • Galaxy Middle School, 2400 Eustace Ave., Deltona

All four shelters will accept pets. Those staying at a shelter with their pets must bring necessary pet  items and supplies.

Shelters should be used only as a last resort because the shelters do not provide luxury accommodations.

Evacuees may need to stay at a shelter for 24 to 72 hours during an emergency. Since space is limited, only take essential items. Avoid bringing valuables.

 

Lake County

Lake County will open emergency shelters according to the schedule below. Pet-friendly shelters are notated with asterisks (*).

Shelters opening Tuesday at 4 p.m.:

  • Villages Elementary – 695 Rolling Acres Road, Lady Lake (special needs) *
  • Leesburg Elementary – 2229 South St., Leesburg (special needs) *
  • Umatilla Elementary – 401 Lake St., Umatilla (special needs) *
  • Lost Lake Elementary – 1901 Johns Lake Road, Clermont (special needs) *
  • Astatula Elementary – 13925 Florida Ave., Astatula (special needs) *
  • Treadway Elementary — 10619 Treadway School Road, Leesburg *
  • Spring Creek Charter — 44440 Spring Creek Road, Paisley *
  • Mascotte Charter — 460 Midway Ave., Mascotte *

Shelters opening Tuesday at 6 p.m.:

  • Round Lake Charter – 31333 Round Lake Road, Mount Dora *
  • Mount Dora High School – 700 N. Highland St., Mount Dora
  • Leesburg High School – 1401 Yellow Jacket Way, Leesburg

Shelters opening Wednesday at 8 a.m.:

  • East Ridge High School – 13322 Excalibur Road, Clermont
  • East Ridge Middle School – 13201 Excalibur Road, Clermont
  • Lost Lake Elementary School – 1901 Johns Lake Road, Clermont
  • Tavares High School – 603 N. New Hampshire Ave., Tavares

 

Marion County
