ORLANDO, Fla. — Mona Hardin, the mother of Ronald Greene says she's been robbed of justice. Greene died during a 2019 encounter with Louisiana State Police in Monroe, LA.

What You Need To Know

  • Ronald Greene died shortly after a chase and his arrest near Monroe, La. three years ago

  • The family was told that Greene died in a car crash, but AP obtained body camera video

  • The video shows Greene being beaten, kicked and shocked while he cried for them to stop

  • Greene's mom, Mona Hardin, told Spectrum News: "They were going to make sure they killed him"

Hardin reacted to newly released audio obtained by the Associated Press which appears to show investigators were skeptical of Trooper Chris Hollingsworth's account of what happened as they described the tasing and repeated blows to Greene's head with a flashlight as unjustified.

Hollingsworth was set to be fired for several violations before he died in a car crash in September 2020.

An in-depth investigation by the Associated Press found bodycam footage showing Greene was beaten, kicked and tased after leading police on a chase.

Hardin says she's haunted to hear Hollingsworth portray himself as a victim and says she's troubled that now three years later no arrests have been made. She says, "Why do you go this long? If the governor says - and all of them say we can't speak on this we can't act on this because of the investigation but yet you've allowed Hollingsworth to be buried with full accolades of a damn hero."

Hardin told Spectrum News 13 back in February, "The fact that that I wasn't allowed to have my son embalmed so I could take him back with me to Florida - that weighs heavy on me"

Hardin was originally told her son died on impact during a car crash.

She's calling for Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards to resign. She also wants Louisiana law enforcement officers involved in the case to be fired and arrested. State police have not commented citing a federal investigation.

Four months ago a bipartisan group of lawmakers launched an investigation after another Associated Press report showed Governor  Edwards was told within hours that troopers arresting Greene engaged in a quote "violent, lengthy struggle."

Governor Edwards has yet to make any public comments about the case in the two years since the deadly incident.
