MELBOURNE, Fla. — Daily Bread, a nonprofit that helps the homeless in Brevard County, got a $5,000 grant to help with their work Friday.

Daily Bread provides hot meals, hot showers, transitional support, health care and more to people who need it in Brevard County.

The $5,000 grant came from the Spectrum Employee Community Grants Program.

"It makes a big difference to get support from the corporate community. And Spectrum is a big business, that they support what we do," said Daily Bread executive director Jeff Njus.

The grant program has helped 293 nonprofits in 31 states since it began in 2019.

"A lot of nonprofits are doing tremendous work in the social aspect of the things that you see, such as right here with the Daily Bread," said Joe Durkin, director of communications for Spectrum. "They are connecting with people who have significant issues, and really making a difference in their lives."

Award recipients are nominated by one of Spectrum's 96,000 employees who have volunteered with that organization for at least a year.

Daily Bread opened its dining facility in 1988 and serves 220 to 275 hungry and/or homeless people a day.
