ORLANDO, Fla. -- A woman who suffers from mental disorders is accused of killing her 80-year-old mother Monday in a suspected scissor attack in their Pine Hills home, according to records.

  • Cheryl Greaux charged with first-degree murder
  • Her brother found mom's body in living room
  • He took a pair of scissors from his sister

Cheryl Greaux, 42, was charged with first-degree murder with a weapon and is being held at the Orange County Jail without bond.

The attack happened in the house owned by her mother, Rosetta Lennards, on Redlive Oaks Lane, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

Her son, Jerry Greaux, found the body and called 911 just before 4 p.m. Monday.

He told deputies he checked his elderly mother daily.

“When he arrived at the house, the door was locked and his sister, Cheryl Greaux, refused to open the door,” her arrest report said.

He got inside through an unlocked window at the rear of the house and found her body in the living room.

His sister, he said, was holding a pair of scissors, which he took from her.

He told deputies his sister suffers from “multiple mental disorders,” including bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

His sister was involuntarily committed in the past and got aggressive with their mother several weeks ago.

During an interview at the Sheriff’s Office, Cheryl Greaux “displayed delusional ideations,” saying she was entertainer Mariah Carey.

She denied her mother was dead, saying it was “Yolanda” and she was killed by two men.

“While speaking with Cheryl she would go on rants that did not make any sense,” her arrest report said.

The Orange-Osceola Medical Examiner’s Office found Lennards suffered trauma to the front and back of her skull.

“The injury on the front of her head was consistent with a pair of scissors,” the report said.
