Last August Kate Dilulio of Rockledge was running with her friend along River Road when the 60-year-old man suddenly collapsed.

Her CPR skills kicked in, and she began to help him.

Paramedics soon arrived and rushed him to the hospital.

“It's automatic, not even thinking about it. I was a little worried I was going to do something wrong. I just did what I remembered and did the best I could,” Dilulio said.

Friday, Dilulio was given the Red Cross Certificate of Merit for her heroic actions. It's highest award given by the group to people who save a life with skills learned in a CPR course.

It's the first time she has ever performed CPR.

Dilulio says the pair is back running together once again.
