FORT PIERCE, Fla. — Fort Pierce is a lovely area with tons of things to do, from restaurants to beautiful beaches, but one of its most popular spots might be the Summer Crush Vineyard & Winery, has been growing in the area for a decade.

What You Need To Know

  • Summer Crush Vineyard and Winery is located in Fort Pierce

  • The winery produces muscadine and tropical fruit wines

  • It includes 10 acres of grapevines and features surfing memorabilia

  • Concerts by local and world-renowned bands on site also are popular

Driving through row after row of his vineyard doesn't get tiresome for Gary Roberts. The sheer beauty that makes up the 10 acres of grapevines in the vineyard and the rest of the 36-acre property make his job of running the operation worth it.

Growing up in Florida, Roberts started surfing at 11 years old and started his massive collection of surfing memorabilia in 1972. Much of that collection can be seen at the winery and displayed in the décor. He's even refurbished many of his surfboards and made them into tables in the winery’s large outdoor venue space.

The winery itself opened in 2012 after Roberts hung up his hat at his long running landscaping business and handed off those responsibilities to his sons. Now he's a full time winemaker, alongside his wife, specializing in muscadine and tropical fruit wines. All of their wines fall into the sweet or semisweet category.

However it's not just a place to sip on some tropical wines. The winery welcomes hundreds of people on most weekends for a variety of different events.

The main attraction for most is the music. The winery brings in local and world-renowned bands to perform.

It's a day trip to a tropical paradise among the grapevines and one that will give visitors access to a true mom-and-pop vineyard in Florida. Summer Crush Vineyard and Winery is open Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. EDT and Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. EDT.
