LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Country Bear Jamboree at Magic Kingdom — one of the original opening day attractions at Disney World — will close this month to undergo a makeover.

What You Need To Know

  • Country Bear Jamboree at Magic Kingdom to temporarily close later this month

  • The attraction is getting a new act with reinterpreted Disney tunes that pays homage to Nashville's Opry-style shows

  • It will reopen sometime this summer, Disney said

The final day to see the current version of the Frontierland attraction will be Jan. 26, Disney said Tuesday.

During the closure, the country-western musical revue with singing animatronic bears, will be transformed into a Nashville-inspired, Opry-style show with reinterpreted Disney tunes. The tunes will be sung in different country music genres such as bluegrass, pop-country, rockabilly and Americana.

The new version of the attraction, which will be known as Country Bear Musical Jamboree, debuts sometime this summer.

Disney announced plans to change Country Bear Jamboree in September at its Destination D23 event at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. A clip shown during the panel (and shared again Tuesday) features a behind-the-scenes look at a recording session for “Bare Necessities” from Disney’s animated film “Jungle Book.”

The long-running attraction features 18 animatronic bears playing instruments and singing a mix of original and classic tunes. Some popular characters include Big Al, Trixie St. Claire and Liver Lips McGrowl.

Country Bear Jamboree isn’t the only Frontierland attraction getting a redo. Construction continues on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, which replaces Splash Mountain. Disney recently shared a first look inside the attraction. It’s set to open sometime this year.
