The store will close on Jan. 7, to make way for “an exciting new experience for guests,” Universal said in a statement.

The Legacy Store opened in May 2021, replacing the flagship Universal Studios Store, which moved to a new location within CityWalk. Since its opening, the Legacy Store has featured a retro theme with displays, merchandise and props tied to some of Universal’s past attraction such as Jaws and Kongfrontation. After Shrek 4-D closed in 2022, props from the attraction were put on display.

In recent weeks, many of the ride and movie-related props were removed, leading some fans to wonder about the store’s future.

Universal isn’t saying just yet what’s replacing the store, but it did promise that “more details will be revealed soon.”

The news comes as Universal prepares to open a DreamWorks-themed land at Universal Studios Florida later this year. There’s also Epic Universe, a brand-new theme park for the Orlando resort, set to open in 2025.
