LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, the two-night experience that let visitors live out their own Star Wars adventure, is closing this fall after being open for just over a year.

What You Need To Know

The experience — which is part-hotel, part-cruise, with elements of role-playing thrown in — will have its final voyage Sept. 28-30, Disney said Thursday.

Starcruiser, located near Disney’s Hollywood Studios, features 100 rooms called cabins. During their stay on the Halcyon, guests can interact with Star Wars characters and participate in a storyline in which they choose either the light or the dark side.

The experience also include activities such as bridge training, lightsaber training, sabacc, and an excursion to the planet of Batuu — Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

Starcruiser also utilizes new technology, including a “real lightsaber” that Disney developed for a final fight scene during the voyage.

“This premium, boutique experience gave us the opportunity to try new things on a smaller scale of 100 rooms, and as we prepare for its final voyage, we will take what we’ve learned to create future experiences that can reach more of our guests and fans,” a Disney World spokesperson said in a statement.

Before Starcruiser launched in March 2022, many Star Wars fans balked at the price of the experience, with a two-night voyage costing $4,800 ($1,200 per person per night) and a four-person cabin going for close to $6,000.

For many, it was just too pricey.

In recent months, Disney began offering discounts and other promotions for Starcruiser.

Starcruiser has been recognized for its innovation, winning a Thea Award for outstanding achievement in brand experience last year.

“Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is one of our most creative projects ever and has been praised by our guests and recognized for setting a new bar for innovation and immersive entertainment,” Disney said in a statement.

Disney said it will contact people who had voyages booked beyond Sept. 30 to discuss options. New bookings are currently paused and will reopen May 26.

“We are so proud of all of the cast members and Imagineers who brought Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser to life and look forward to delivering an excellent experience for guests during the remaining voyages over the coming months,” Disney said in an update.

Right now, there are no immediate plans for the Starcruiser building once it closes, Disney said.
