ORLANDO, Fla. -- Traveling eastbound on Anderson Street in downtown Orlando near Interstate 4 can be a "nightmare."

That's according to one viewer who wrote in this week.

Suzanne McKee wrote:

“The cars exiting at I-4 and turning left onto Anderson often block the intersection which impedes traffic flow once the light turns green for traffic moving east on Anderson across the bridge over the interstate.

If there were a sign saying "Do not block intersection" it might actually help decrease the congestion and bottleneck that brings everything to a stop.  After waiting for several lights and not making much progress, drivers tend to proceed across the intersection out of frustration and then the problems continue.

Please see if someone might consider putting signs to keep the intersection open and traffic moving.  It seems like such a simple idea that would make a big difference."

So, does McKee’s idea hold any water?

We contacted the city of Orlando’s transportation department which maintains that particular area. Officials claim that a sign like that would likely have little to no effect on drivers who intentionally enter a full intersection.

The City’s transportation department says that these signs have limited benefits. The department also said this is because it is already unlawful to block an intersection, that most drivers know this and they do so willingly anyway.

Officials claim that it would only serve as a reminder.

The City admitted that various road, lane and ramp closures have concentrated traffic volumes on Anderson Street. Officials say that several adjustments have been made to signal timings over the last year, but the solutions have limits.

They did promise to continue to monitor that area moving forward.
