ORLANDO, Fla. — For most attendees, University of Central Florida Football Ladies Knight is all about fellowship, wine and, of course, the team.

For UCF super fan Lynne Cheek, it’s about all of that and much more.

“I didn’t want to miss because this only happens once a year and I just love the energy of it, and I feel like I’m home with my people,” said the UCF graduate.

Home is something that brings comfort to Cheek during a time in her life where it’s often a struggle to be comfortable.

“I am on an interim chemo before I start one that is kind of like a clinical trial, and it’s giving me a lot of stomach upset and there seems to be, today, nothing I can do about it,” she said.

As Cheek’s aggressive cancer continues to spread throughout her bones, she said she is remaining as positive as possible.

“When somebody puts in front of you, there’s a deadline, you just say, ‘Can I beat that?’ You know?” said Cheek.

With every new day, she continues to charge on despite that deadline, and right now, one of the driving factors that keeps her fighting is the season ahead.

“This fall is my favorite time of year, and I just can’t miss football," she said. "And now we are going to the Big 12, I don’t want to miss that either."

Those around her say Cheek's story inspires everyone she meets, including UCF head football coach Gus Malzahn and his wife, Kristi.

“I remember when I came to the ladies football clinic last year, and I got up to coach, he said, ‘We had a meeting about you today, and we want to make this the most special day for you,'" said Cheek. "And I was just like, you know, I was really touched."

She said that motivation is a two-way street.

“I try to fight like them," Cheek said. "I always say, ‘Fight like a Knight, charge on,’ and that’s what keeps me motivated."
