ORLANDO, Fla.— Dr. Phillips girls wrestling is a lifestyle.

“Training, training, training and mindset. It starts within,” said Aaliyah Hyacinthe, a Senior on the DP girls wrestling team.

That strong mentality is paired with hard work.

“We practice like champions. We don’t leave this room until we are breathing hard and sweating,” said Hyacinthe.

For Senior Aaliyah Hyacinthe, that recipe for success has made her the one to beat this season.

“This year she is really focused on winning the state championship and she has started the season really well. She is undefeated and she has pinned all of her opponents and she just won the tournament last weekend,” said Kirwyn Adderley, Dr. Phillips Girls Wrestling Head Coach.

“When you are out there on the mat it’s only you and the other person, you have to be strong. You got to know alright you’ve been working for this, you got it,” said Hyacinthe.

The work has ramped up because she only has one thing on her mind.

“Win, once you start something you want to finish it so my goal is to be a state champ and I am not going to stop until that happens which is this year,” said Hyacinthe.

After coming up short her Freshman season then breaking her leg Sophomore year she knew giving up wasn’t in the picture.

“Everything happens for a reason and I feel like I love the sport so I feel like not wrestling for the rest of my years was not an option,” said Hyacinthe.

Her passion for the sport continues to drive her.

“To me wrestling means hard work because it doesn’t come over night. Being able to win does not come over night so a lot of hard work and dedication is put in to what’s shown,” said Hyacinthe.

She isn’t showing signs of slowing down any time soon.

“Stay strong, it’s going to get harder but anything is possible,” said Hyacinthe.
