NATIONWIDE — On Wednesday, Ford announced that it is recalling nearly 1.5 million F-150 pickup trucks because the transmissions can suddenly downshift into first gear.

The trucks impacted are the 2011 through 2013 model years with six-speed automatic transmissions, according to the Associated Press.

The issue stems from a malfunction that sends a signal from the transmission speed sensor.

Currently, there are five reports of crashes, with one where a person suffered a whiplash injury, according to the company, as reported by the AP.

Owners of the popular F-series pickup will receive a letter from Ford starting on March 4 about the issue.

Ford dealerships will update the software to fix the problem, stated the AP.
