DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. — A 67-year-old man sought as a person of interest in a brutal Oklahoma quadruple murder was located and arrested Tuesday in Daytona Beach Shores, officials said.

According to information from the Daytona Beach Shores Police Department, Joseph L. Kennedy II was taken into custody just before 8:30 a.m. near the Botefuhr Beach Approach.

Officer Laura Diedesch reported finding Kennedy after her patrol vehicle's license plate reader flagged the Toyota Tundra he was driving as stolen out of Oklahoma, investigators said.

"Kennedy was listed as a missing person and, once Daytona Beach Shores Public Safety Officers notified the Oklahoma agency, they were informed Kennedy was a person of interest in a quadruple homicide that occurred earlier this month," department officials said in a statement. "Kennedy is being held in the Volusia County Branch Jail with no bond."

A police report filed in connection with the arrest indicated that Kennedy had been listed as a "missing person," but "he advised he was not a missing person and was not in any danger."

Officials in Oklahoma say they have been looking for Kennedy so they can question him about the deaths and dismemberment of four men who were found on Oct. 14, in the Deep Fork River in Okmulgee, a town of about 11,000 about 40 miles south of Tulsa.

An official cause of death has not been released, but all four men had gunshot wounds, and their bodies had been dismembered, according to Okmulgee Police Chief Joe Prentice.

Prentice has said Kennedy, before he disappeared late last week, was questioned about the four men found dead — Mark Chastain, 32, Billy Chastain, 30, Mike Sparks, 32, and Alex Stevens, 29 — but denied knowing them.

Prentice declined to say Kennedy is a suspect, and he has not been charged in Oklahoma, but said he will be brought back to the state for questioning.
