ORLANDO, Fla. — A second middle school-aged rower has died from his injuries, according to a statement from North Orlando Rowing in a Facebook post.

The child's death comes less than two weeks after lightning struck near a group of youth rowers on Lake Fairview in Orlando's College Park area on September 15. 

According to authorities, five middle-school-aged children were boating when lightning struck. Three students were evaluated and reunited with their family, one was hospitalized and a fifth remained missing that Thursday evening.

The body of the missing rower was found a day later.

"It is with broken hearts that we share the passing of a second rower involved in last Thursday’s weather-related tragedy," North Orlando Rowing said in their Facebook post. "The NOR community is devastated and continues to focus on supporting our affected families and our entire NOR team during this difficult time."

North Orlando Rowing stated on Facebook that the group is cooperating with local authorities and U.S. Rowing as they investigate what happened.

The child has not yet been identified.
