POLK COUNTY, Fla. — Tucked away right between Orlando and Tampa is a chain of lakes that is home to all things water sports, but what it's truly known for are its pristine fishing spots.

In this week's Florida on a Tankful, we head to Lake Alfred to try our hand at bass fishing with a seasoned captain who knows how to teach even the most novice of fishers.

What You Need To Know

  •  Lake Alfred is a great place for fishing

  • Captain Jackson Williams has been fishing in this area for years

  • His business, Action Bass Guide Service, is willing to take clients on a trip

As the early morning light creeps across the chain of lakes, it's the perfect time for Captain Jackson Williams to rev his engine and explore. He looking for just the right spot to post up, in search of the next great catch.

“I've been fishing my whole life and started tournament bass fishing when I was in middle school, and I've been hooked ever since," Williams said.

He first found a love and passion for fishing as a young boy on trips out to the lake with his grandfather, but it wasn't until later in life that he gave up the corporate job and turned it in for a career on the lake.

He opened his own business called Action Bass Guide Service just a little over a year ago, and it's been rewarding to say the least, showing experienced fishers and beginners the ropes to all things bass fishing.

Everything from fishing with live bait to the trickier aspects of fishing that involve using a lure, but with his nearly 20 years of experience he makes it look easy.

His tours and fishing charters take you all over the iconic chain of lakes in Lake Alfred, and there is so much to see while you're out there, the wildlife is forever changing so no one trip is the same as the next.

It's a day spent with a seasoned captain exploring one of Central Florida's best kept secrets. So brave the early morning and settle in for a day on the lake with Captain Jackson.
