ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orange County Sheriff's Department reported a deputy shot a man in what they described as a "domestic violence situation."

No deputies were hurt in the incident.

At 6:10 p.m., officers responded to the 5400 block of Spring Hill Drive in Orange County after a 911 call was received. On the call, a woman could be heard, in distress and screaming for help.

When the deputies arrived on scene, they engaged in a foot pursuit with an armed suspect. During that pursuit, the suspect fired a gun at deputies, and the deputies returned fire, striking the suspect.

The suspect, a man in his late 30s, is in custody and was transported to the hospital in critical condition, according to authorities.

The sheriff's department announced that the deputies involved will be placed on temporary, paid administrative leave while the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigates.
