The agency is holding a two-day hiring event on Friday and Saturday in downtown Orlando to fill positions.

The hiring event gives those interested in TSA officer positions a chance to expedite the application process.

TSA has little time to waste. TSA in Orlando says staff from other parts of the airport are helping with non-security specific jobs to keep people moving through, and that’s providing them with adequate staffing for now.  But TSA says it is adding to its workforce now to be ready for an increasing travel volume through the summer.

Ayesha Bryant came to the first of the two-day hiring event. She says she wants to advance her career in security and law enforcement.

“I’m eager for the opportunity to start,” Bryant said. “That’s my niche — that’s my favorite thing to do — so I wanted to take it to the next step.”

Bryant said in a volatile job market, she’s looking for job security.

“Knowing that I can easily step into another position and be successful and secured, I think is wonderful,” she said.

And she believes an opportunity with TSA would be perfect for her.

“I think it’s more the mom in me that likes to do the serving and protecting, so as long as I’m helping someone, I’m good,” Bryant said.

Jerron Hawkins showed up to Orlando International Airport several hours early for his flight back to D.C. to give himself plenty of time. He said he flies often and has noticed a lot more people flying recently.

“I know all of my friends all over the world are traveling and definitely think TSA needs to hire more people,” Hawkins said. “I actually flew into Tampa when I first came to Florida and I had the same problem — it was super packed — super busy.”

TSA encourages anyone coming to day two of its hiring event to try to make an appointment and start the application on their website

he second day of the hiring event goes from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 12, at the Embassy Suites Orlando Downtown.
