ORLANDO, Fla. — A Central Florida motorcycle club is mourning after founding member Stephanie Ortiz was killed early Friday in a hit-and-run crash while riding in east Orange County.

The Florida Highway Patrol charged two women — roommates Kimberly Guzman Lijeron and Jaqueline Solano, both 22 — in connection with the crash at 4:30 a.m. on Lake Pickett Road near Percival Road.

The Central Florida Motorcycle Riders club, with more than 11,000 Facebook members, gathered for a candlelight vigil at 8 p.m. Friday at the crash site to honor Ortiz, affectionately known as Teffa among fellow bikers.

Guzman Lijeron was jailed on a charge of leaving a fatal crash, a first-degree felony. The charge is punishable by as many as 30 years in prison.

Solano, accused of picking up Guzman Lijero in her white Kia Soul and driving her away, was charged with two, third-degree felonies: accessory after the fact and tampering with evidence.

Each charge is punishable by up to five years in prison.

A state trooper who responded to the crash found Ortiz, her motorcycle, a black Toyota Camry and a silver Nissan Rogue.

A passenger in the Toyota said Guzman Lijeron was driving the vehicle, got out after the crash and called friends for help.

“He watched her walk away from the crash scene and enter a white SUV and the SUV left the scene,” an arrest report said.

Investigators said they traced her phone to an apartment in the 4300 block of Thornbriar Lane in Orlando.

A woman there told a trooper she was with Solano while she was driving a white Kia. They saw the crash happen, she said.

“They did not stop to render aid and continued to travel away from the scene,” the report added.

Solano got a phone call from Guzman Lijeron, who was frantic and asked them to pick her up at Lake Pickett Road. “Ms. Solano drove back to the scene where they picked Ms. Guzman up on the roadside and left the scene,” the report said.

A different trooper spotted Solano’s Kia in the parking lot of the apartment complex off Thornbriar Lane and found the unit shared by Solano and Guzman Lijeron. Solano was home and agreed to an interview. She acknowledged picking up Guzman Lijeron after the crash.

“They traveled to the Waffle House at East Colonial Drive and Alafaya Trail where they sat in the parking lot,” Solano’s arrest report said. “Ms. Guzman stated to Ms. Solano and [a third woman] she did not know why he [the Toyota passenger] made her drive and it was not her fault.”
