The crash happened at 11:01 p.m. Saturday at SR-471 and State Road 50, about 4 miles south of Webster, FHP said.

The SUV driver was heading north on SR-471, tried to pass another northbound vehicle, entered the southbound lane and “failed to maneuver from the path” of the semi-trailer, FHP said in a preliminary crash report released Sunday.

As a result, the SUV collided head-on with the semi-trailer.

The impact propelled the SUV to the east shoulder and the vehicle overturned on its left side.

The semi-trailer came to rest along the roadway shoulder.

The driver, a 64-year-woman from Jackson, Georgia, sustained minor injuries, FHP said.

The SUV driver suffered fatal injuries at the scene.

FHP did not release the names of the drivers.
