TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Gov. Ron DeSantis has tapped a second South Florida appeals judge for his second nomination to the Florida Supreme Court.

Robert Luck, 39, is a former Miami federal prosecutor and circuit court judge who recently served on the 3rd District Court of Appeal. DeSantis made the announcement Monday.

Luck said his priority is to the Florida Constitution and says courts shouldn't overreach.

"I have taken an oath to make the Constitution and not the judiciary supreme. I swear to you, governor, I will keep that oath today, tomorrow, and God willing, for the next 35 years,'' Luck said.

DeSantis made the announcement at the Jewish Scheck Hillel Community School, where Luck's children attend.

Luck was born and raised in Miami-Dade County and is a graduate of the University of Florida.

The new Republican governor will get a chance to make three nominations to the state's high court — three judges have termed out for mandatory retirement at age 70.

Last week, DeSantis appointed Judge Barbara Lagoa to the Florida Supreme Court.

DeSantis hasn't said when he'd pick his third Supreme Court justice.
