OCOEE, Fla. A man was taken into custody Friday after police say he carjacked a vehicle with a toddler in the backseat.

  • Vehicle carjacked with 2-year-old boy in backseat, police say
  • Toddler reunited unharmed about an hour after abduction

The 2-year-old boy was found unharmed about an hour after the carjacking and was reunited with his mother soon after.

Jemoy M. Gordon, 26, is facing charges of aggravated kidnapping, armed carjacking, and battery, Ocoee Police said.

The carjacking happened just before 11 a.m. at the Good Homes Plaza on Good Homes Road and West Colonial Drive. Police said the mother was attacked from behind while she tried to get her son out of the car seat.

The woman fought the man, who police identified as Gordon, but said he had a gun, according to investigators. She pleaded with the man, telling him her child was still inside the car. But he got control of the vehicle and drove off.

The car with the toddler inside was recovered less than 2 miles away at Apopka-Vineland Road and Balboa Drive.

“I didn’t know what to think, I was so... trembling... my grandson -- he’s two years old,” said Betty Ferguson, the boy’s grandmother. “I mean, what do you do with a two-year-old?”

Gordon could face more charges from the Orange County Sheriff's Office, police said.
