A Bay area couple experienced unimaginable grief with the loss of their 2-year-old son.

Now, they're honoring his memory by helping children in need.

An identical twin, Walker Lane died suddenly five days before his second birthday in 2013.

His parents, Angel and Tim, channeled their grief into a project to focus on others.

"We wanted to find a way to be able to incorporate him into our lives even though he wasn't here with us," Angel said. "They (the twins) were born with a rare medical disorder called Namaline Myopathy."

Through their grief, they started the Walker Thomas Lane Foundation.

"Our mission is to help underprivileged and at-risk youth in the greater Tampa area," Tim Lane said. "And so we are focused on food."

On food, because, when the twins were born, they could not eat on their own and were tube fed.

The Lanes foundation donates 4,500 bags of food a year to children at five Tampa-area schools. The charity accepts one-time or ongoing pledges as well as food donations.

All of the funds go to purchasing food.

"Just to know that I'm helping someone," Angel said. "Because I can't love my child, that I can love someone else's child. That gives me great peace."
