ORLANDO, Fla. — A vigil was held Friday night for the Boone High School sophomore gunned down Tuesday morning while walking to school.

A makeshift memorial on Waldo Street where Alejandro Vargas Martinez was found continues to grow. That's where the vigil was took place at 7 p.m.

Tyron Browder taught Alejandro eighth-grade math and said he was a memorable student. As a pastor, Browder felt compelled to reach out to the grieving family and attend the vigil.

"They told me about the events that were taking place, and I knew I had to be a part of this, that's why I am here. He was a great kid, inspiring, had a positive attitude all the time. I'm not surprised that this many people showed up to celebrate his life," he said.

Orange County Sheriff's Office detectives still have not made an arrest in the case but are hoping surveillance video released, which shows a vehicle of interest, will help.

A reward of $10,000 is being offered for information leading to solving Vargas' slaying.

The school district has set up a memorial fund to help his family. All proceeds from the fund will go to the family, the district said.
