EDGEWATER, Fla. — A man who authorities say detonated a pipe bomb in anger after learning he was being evicted from an Oak Hill home is in custody, Volusia County deputies said Wednesday.

Troy William Phoenix, 36, was apprehended in Edgewater, the Sheriff's Office said

Phoenix had been sought since the incident last Friday at a home on Beehive Drive. That's when neighbors called authorities after hearing an explosion.

They told investigators that Phoenix got into an argument with a resident in the home after he learned he was being evicted from a shed in which he'd been living on the property.

Phoenix then threatened to blow up the house and everyone in it, investigators said. He ignited a pipe bomb and went inside, but then threw it outside in the yard, they said.

The bomb exploded, shaking the neighborhood. Phoenix fled, setting off a manhunt.

No one was hurt.

"Anybody who would detonate a bomb and threaten to kill everybody in the house, you know obviously he's not in his right mind right now," Sheriff Mike Chitwood said in a news conference last week.

Phoenix will be charged with possession/discharge of a destructive device, possession/manufacture of explosives and three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, deputies said.
