MELBOURNE, Fla. — A rash of car break-ins has the Melbourne Police Department searching for the bandits who stole thousands of dollars' worth of cash and goods just two weeks before Christmas.

  • Four different locations hit
  • One person says $4,100 was taken

The break-ins started Monday afternoon when four different locations were hit, said Lt. Trevor Schaffer of the police department.

Cars were burglarized in Paradise Beach Park, the Eau Gallie Library, Wickham Park and the Planet Fitness parking lot off Apollo Boulevard and Sarno Road.

One victim says the robbers took $4,100 and all the belongings that were in her car.

Melbourne Police say the getaway vehicle may be a black SUV, with several people inside.
