ORLANDO, Fla. — It was a chilly start to our Thursday with temperatures in the upper 30s to low 40s.

It was a chilly start to our Thursday with temperatures in the upper 30s to low 40s.

High pressure drifting over northern Florida is maintaining a mainly dry atmosphere, although high level moisture streaming in from the Gulf is providing us a thin layer of cloud cover.

We were still 10 degrees below seasonable levels under filtered sunshine Thursday, but it felt much nicer than Wednesday. We will keep a few clouds around overnight and hold temps in the 40s to around 50 degrees.

The high to our north moves east Friday and allows a return flow into the peninsula. This will not only bring more moisture back into the area, but is set to warm us back to seasonable levels in the mid to upper 70s under a partly cloudy sky.

Even warmer air returns this weekend with highs climbing into the low to mid-80s into early next week. We’ll also introduce rain chances with a 40 to 50-percent coverage Saturday through Monday.

The next cold front slipping in our direction arrives late Monday into early Tuesday, and the timing details are still murky. One of our main models speeds up the front by several hours, while another slows down.

In any case, we can expect scattered showers and maybe even a few storms before sunrise Tuesday, then drying out with a high in the 70s. Cooler, drier air drops in Wednesday and Thursday with highs around 70.

Very poor surfing conditions are in store for Friday, thanks to a small east swell and northeast windswell mix. Atlantic waters will be like a washing machine, so waves of two to occasionally four feet will be hard to ride.

A chill in the air early may keep the beaches fairly quiet, but if you are planning to go, keep in mind that the rip current risk stays moderate.
