  • Man had fired shots at another man and police
  • No officers injured; suspect in hospital

According to police, a 41-year-old man was shot by officers after he began shooting at law enforcement and a man he was arguing with, police said.

No officers were injured and the suspect remains hospitalized at Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical but stable condition.

The shooting happened on Griggs Avenue near Morrill Terrace and North Griffin Drive just before 9:30 p.m.

Police said the incident began with some type of argument between Joseph Hoffman and 37-year-old Jonathan Lewis.

When police arrived, they said the armed Hoffman refused to obey commands and refused to put his weapon down.

At some point, Hoffman began firing his weapon, officers said. Lewis was shot, but his injuries were not life-threatening.

"We heard massive (amounts) of shooting," said Slyvia Preston, who lives in the neighborhood. "Then it was wait a minute and then shooting constantly. Next thing you heard was sirens."

Lewis was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center in stable condition.

Two officers exchanged gunfire with Hoffman, striking him.

Hoffman has been charged with first-degree attempted murder, according to police. Additional charges are pending.

The two officers who fired their weapons have been placed on administrative duty while FDLE conducts an investigation.
