It seems to be the “on trend” thing to do – ban plastic straws. Many Central Florida and Tampa Businesses are jumping on the bandwagon, but are we all getting the short straw in this deal? Environmentalists and Experts say plastic pollution is much bigger than that apparatus you use to slug down your Slurpee. In Florida, a 2008 law prohibits cities from banning plastic bags and containers, and a 2016 law blocks bans on plastic foam. State Sen. Linda Stewart says she will file a bill next year to allow plastic bag bans. A similar bill filed in 2018 died in committee.
