LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Disney World has announced plans to bring updated cabins to Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground and turn the cabins into a new Disney Vacation Property.

Under the proposed plan, the current cabins at the resort will be replaced with more than 350 newly-designed cabins that are more environmentally friendly.

In a news release, Disney said the new design offer a “fresh take” on the cabin experience.

Each standalone cabin will include a bedroom, bathroom, living room, full kitchen and a private patio. Some cabins will also be dog-friendly.

“For more than 50 years, Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground has offered guests the opportunity to explore nature with their loved ones while staying in the heart of Walt Disney World Resort," said Bill Diercksen, senior vice president and general manager of Disney Vacation Club, in a statement. “We’re excited to continue to build upon the resort’s rich legacy and elevate the cabin experience for our members and all guests to enjoy for years to come.”

The cabins are expected to open in 2024, becoming the 17th DVC resort. Disney said guests who are not DVC members will be able to book stays at the cabins, but reservations will be based on availability. Campsite accommodations will also still be available.

The proposed cabins are part of other improvements underway at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, including walking trail enhancements, a proposed pool and expanded dining experiences at Trail’s End Restaurant.
