ORLANDO, Fla. — The large Tower of Terror billboard at Disney World is gone.

What You Need To Know

  • The Tower of Terror billboard torn down

  • The long-standing sign will be replaced with landscaping

  • The sign depicted a smaller version of the Hollywood Studios attraction

The sign, previously located in the median on World Drive, was permanently removed Wednesday night. By Thursday morning, all that was left was a pile of dirt and metal scraps.

A long-time fixture, the billboard depicted a smaller version of the popular Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. On the billboard, a 3D cutout of the ride vehicle features passengers “screaming” as the elevator drops.

The sign also had sparsely used special effects that allowed the elevator to move back and forth.

On Wednesday afternoon, excavators and a dumpster were seen staged around the sign along with orange construction barrels. The sign will be replaced with landscaping, Spectrum News has confirmed.

The billboard’s removal will not affect the Hollywood Studios attraction, which will remain open.

Disney has not given a reason for removing the elaborate billboard, although this isn’t the first time it’s removed similar signs. A billboard for the “It’s Tough to be a Bug” attraction at Disney's Animal Kingdom was removed back in 2017.
