After 42 years with the Walt Disney Company, Imagineer Kevin Rafferty has announced he is retiring in April.

The news was shared Wednesday on the official Walt Disney Imagineering Instagram account.

“We can’t thank Kevin enough for all of his contributions at Imagineering and wish him all the best in his next adventure!,” the post said.

During his time with Disney Imagineering, Rafferty worked on a number of notable projects, including Cars Land at Disney California Adventure, Toy Story Mania!, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith and The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. His last major project was Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, which debuted at Disney’s Hollywood Studios last March.

Rafferty got his start as a dishwasher at Disneyland before eventually landing a career as an Imagineer.

“Enjoying a long and prolific creative career as an Imagineer was an honor, a privilege and a gift, really, because I was entrusted with the rare opportunity and great responsibility of continuing Walt Disney’s legacy of making people happy,” Rafferty said in a statement on Instagram. “What can be better than a ‘job’ that makes people happy?”

Rafferty’s retirement comes just months after longtime Disney Imagineer Joe Rohde announced his retirement from the company.
