Just in time for Spring Break, we’re going “On The Town” and deep inside a Lake County winery. With festivals every weekend, we’re discovering how your favorite bottle gets to your glass, and why this place is so dear to multiple generations.

1. Every Saturday and Sunday, Lakeridge Winery in Clermont has a festival-like atmosphere with live music, food and, of course, wine. It’s called “Weekends at the Winery.” That means the older college students visiting Central Florida right now can flash their IDs. But there’s no age limit to visit and enjoy the ambiance, food, scenery, and gift shop.

2. Christian Slupe’s grandfather founded Lakeridge Winery. “It’s pretty special to be part of such a legacy,” Christian told us. Being a third-generation operator is a big deal for him. “There’s not a ton of those left around the country.”

3. Grape harvest time in Florida here isn’t until August, but you might be surprised about the multi-year labor of love to produce your favorite bottle. For instance, Christian brought us out to the vineyard to show us where he recently planted a vine - one of Lakeridge’s two white grapes. “It actually won’t put on fruit for another 3-4 years.”

4. Seventy of the property’s acres are dedicated to growth. That requires a combo of mechanical pruners and hands-on labor.

5. Hm, ok, so what’s Lakeridge Winery’s biggest seller? Yep, it’s Southern Red, with 42% of their sales. You can sip on that, or whatever suits you, daily. This upcoming though, they have live music by Dale New (Sat.) and ‘Beautiful Bobby’ Blackmon (Sun.) from 12p.m. to 4p.m.
