BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — One driver was killed and another is in critical condition after two pickups crashed at Friday morning on State Road 528 near Port Canaveral, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

  • SR 528 westbound closed for several hours after crash
  • FHP: Eastbound pickup crossed over into westbound lanes
  • Male driver killed, another hospitalized in serious condition

Paul Tucker, a 66-year-old Cocoa man driving a Ford pickup, died after being transported to Cape Canaveral Hospital.

Samuel Lewis, 20, the driver of the other vehicle, a Dodge pickup, is at the same hospital in serious condition.

Just before 11:30 a.m., the Dodge was traveling eastbound on S.R. 528 and the Ford was heading westbound before the crash, according to FHP Lt. Kim Montes.

For an unknown reason, the eastbound Dodge traveled through the grass median and into the westbound lanes, troopers said. The front of the Dodge hit the left side of the Ford. The crash remains under investigation, and charges are pending against Lewis.

Traffic was blocked for hours after the crash.
