LOUISVILLE, Ky. — It’s all about the base: It's true for musician Meghan Trainor, and it is also true for a Louisville distillery.

  • Louisville distillery uses 'sonic aging' to enhance brandy
  • Copper and Kings' distiller says music makes barrels vibrate
  • Distillery plays music 24/7 to help brandy breathe

Copper and Kings’ distillers blast music 24 hours a day, seven days a week in a process called "sonic aging."

Master distiller Brandon O’Daniel said it's not just for their entertainment.

“It causes a nice pulsation in the barrel, so that’s when the barometric pressure changes. The barrel starts to breathe and I get fresh brandy going in and out of the oak,” O’Daniel explained.

O’Daniel said the distillers love rock 'n roll, but they also play a lot of pop and rap.

“Anything that really makes the bass pop and jump, O’Daniel said. “We want to put your hand on the barrel and feel it vibrate.”

People in the bar upstairs love the results from sonic aging.

“It is great,” Rich Schibler said. “It is one of the best old fashioned drinks I’ve had in a while.”

Schibler got a chance to the tour Copper and Kings before his group went upstairs.

“Sonic aging is something that’s new to me,” Schibler said. “It was really cool to feel the barrels and the vibrations in action.”
