BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A Palm Bay woman was arrested Friday after the Florida Dept. of Law Enforcement says she falsely accused a police officer of sexual assault.

  • FDLE says woman falsely accused Melbourne sergeant
  • Woman alleged the sergeant sexually battered her
  • Agents said her statements proved 'false and contradictory'

Maria Liduvina Reyes, 44, is charged with falsely accusing a law enforcement officer and giving false reports to law enforcement.

During March 2018, FDLE says Reyes filed a complaint that she was a victim of sexual battery by a Melbourne Police Department sergeant.

Reyes was arrested for trespassing in February, and told a corrections officer upon arrival at the Brevard County Jail that the sergeant was abusive and sexually battered her.

FDLE agents said during their investigation, they found that Reyes made false and contradictory statements about the night she was arrested.

They also said they determined Reyes was not alone with the sergeant during the time of the alleged sexual assault.

She is being held at Brevard County Jail on $2,500 bond.
