ORLANDO, Fla. — It's one of main routes to get from one side of the state of Florida to the other, and it's going through an extensive transformation.

It's called the "I-4 Ultimate" project. And if you regularly travel on or near the interstate anywhere in Seminole and Orange counties, you can't miss it.

It's a project to make over 21 miles of the interstate through those counties. Crews are putting, or have put, ramps where there weren't ramps, moved exits, added lanes.

Finding ways to avoid the interstate during the I-4 Ultimate work is a big deal for many people. Our Real Time Traffic Expert Ryan Harper is continually keeping you updated, but the I-4 Ultimate project has its own website to help you get around as well.

The website gives you updates on lane closures, the dates for the closures and what workers are doing. It also allows you to choose your commute and find alternate routes. There are a number of different routes, and you can see which one could work for you depending on the part of Central Florida you're in or where you're coming from or going to.

Spectrum News 13 is in close contact with Florida Department of Transportation, and Harper will also give you updates if a closure has the potential to cause a major snag in your drive.

To navigate I-4, be sure to check out both FDOT's I-4 Ultimate website and also Spectrum News 13's coverage of the project.
