PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. (AP) — Florida police say a teen overheard at school saying he left his gun in his car has been arrested and now claims it was a joke.

Pembroke Pines police say the 17-year-old is charged with making a false report concerning the use of a firearm in a violent manner. Police say the teen was arrested Tuesday when a Pembroke Pines Charter High School teacher overheard him say "Guys, I left my gun in my car. You get to live another day."

The comment followed a monthly active-shooter drill at the school. Police say the teen's car was searched and no weapons were found. Police say the teen has said he didn't intended to harm anyone. Authorities haven't released the teen's name.

It's unclear if the teen has a lawyer.
