South Florida soccer powerhouse Plantation American Heritage once again crushed Merritt Island’s dreams of a state title.
The Mustangs (18-3-1) struggled to generate scoring opportunities and managed just five shots during a 2-0 loss to the Patriots in the Class 3A state semifinals at Eastern Florida State College.
American Heritage will take on Land O’Lakes in the 3A title game Thursday at 8:05pm on Bright House Sports Network.
It’s the fourth consecutive season Merritt Island has lost to American Heritage in the state tournament.
Both Patriots’ goals came in a four minute flurry in the first half.
Chyanne Dennis notched her ninth goal of the season in the 22nd minute on an assist from Emily Vasquez.
The two reversed roles in the 26th minute for Vasquez’s fourth goal of the season.
