A man was apparently caught with some dirty money in more ways than one after deputies said they found more than $1,000 in his rectum.

  • Marion man accused of hiding money where sun doesn't shine
  • Pattreon Stokes faces various drug-related charges
  • 7-month-old was in front seat of vehicle, violating law, deputies say

Pattreon Stokes was pulled over for speeding Saturday while driving a white Buick near East Highway 40 and Baseline Road, the Marion Sheriff's Office says.

Deputy Calvin Batts noticed that the 26-year-old Stokes had a 7-month-old baby in the front seat of the vehicle and smelled pot in the vehicle, he said.

According to officials, deputies found the following items in Stokes' vehicle:

  • 197 grams of methamphetamine
  • Rock cocaine
  • 4 grams of heroin
  • Small amount of marijuana
  • A scale
  • Money

When Stokes was taken to the Marion County Jail, deputies said they noticed that the money was missing.

Stokes claimed that it was already collected by authorities, the Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post. But the apparently vanished money made an appearance when deputies saw "… $20 bills falling from Stokes' buttocks area," the Sheriff's Office said.

After some digging around, deputies found $1,090 in Stokes' rectum, they said.

Stokes has been charged with smuggling contraband into a detention facility, trafficking methamphetamine, trafficking heroin, possession of cocaine with the intent to sell, manufacture or deliver, possession of marijuana and possession of drug equipment.

Lauren Lettelier, a public information officer with the Sheriff's Office, said Stokes was not charged with child negligence — even though the 7-month-old was found in the front seat of the vehicle — because it would be hard to prove in court.

The child's mother was in the back seat at the time of the traffic stop and child was released to her custody.

Stokes is being held on a bond of $2,000.

The Sheriff's Office noted that Stokes appeared to be "bummed" about his situation.
