Fire rescue crews from Central Florida are now in Texas and seeing some of the worst flood zones firsthand.

"There are people that are probably trapped in houses and flooded areas that can't get out, and there are only so many rescuers out there. So, the more rescuers you put out there, the quicker we can affect rescues," Central Florida Urban Rescue Task Force Lieutenant Garrett Wienckowski said Monday.

Lt. Wienckowski says 22 members of their crew were sent to Texas Sunday following a request for more help from rescuers equipped with boats and boat rescue training.

Hauling four trailers of equipment and staff, members of the Central Florida Urban Rescue Task Force touched ground in Texas, prepared to begin helping teams of rescuers throughout the areas most impacted by Harvey.

Right now the team is expected to stay in Texas for 7-10 days, but their trip could be extended depending on the storm damage.

"If there's more help needed, then we can extend them for two weeks, and if they need more equipment after that we can come right now," Lt. Wienckowski said.
