A 70-year-old woman was killed early Monday morning in a house fire near Daytona Beach Shores, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.

Firefighters and deputies responded at about 5:08 a.m. to a home on Gladys Terrace following a 911 call from a neighbor stating he spotted flames in the home through a window and saw smoke coming out through a vent in the roof.

Responding firefighters found Carol Drawdy unresponsive. A firefighter pulled Drawdy from the house and attempted life-saving measures, but she was pronounced dead at 5:23 a.m.

There were no immediate signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances, deputies said.

The scene was turned over to the State Fire Marshal's Office to investigate the cause of the fire. A cat that survived the fire was recovered from the home.
