Months after Hurricane Matthew slammed into Flagler County, some homes still need new roofs.

One Flagler County roofing company said it received more than 200 calls a day in the first three months after Hurricane Matthew struck the coast.

“It was a mess. Like any company out there, you’re making 10 estimates a day, 10 appointments for roofs. People are complaining about, there’s water coming in, a tree fell on my house — how fast can you get here?” said Daniel Lusinski, owner of Chardani Roofing.

Now, six months later, it's still tough for some people, Lusinski said. He said a lot of people still in need of roof repairs are on a waiting list.

He said he and his crews are still going house to house, putting in new shingles and replacing the water-damaged lumber. Right now, he said they are on schedule — but are still getting calls.

“There’s only so much a company can handle. A lot of bigger companies here are maxed out. They’re 3 to 6 months out on scheduling,” Lusinski said.

Homeowner Queenie McCray said, “One company told me, 'No way. It’s going to be another year.' My heart dropped. “My roof has been looking terrible. I’ve been ashamed of it for months.”

Several Flagler roofers said they have had up to 700 calls for jobs and were booked two months out. Some have stopped taking appointments.

So far, Lusinski said he has done more than 100 roofs.

“If I can make one homeowner happy, then the rest will be happy as well,” Lusinski said.

Lusinski also suggests for homeowners to make sure they have a good insurance policy going into hurricane season. He said depending on the size of the home, new roofs are running about $10,000-$15,000.
