The two people who were found dead in an Orlando-area home on Monday afternoon have been identified, and a person of interest is being sought, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.

Martha Cardin, 75, and her son, Steven Cardin, 55, were found dead inside their home on 1501 Ravana Drive, not far from Goldenrod Road, at about 3:08 p.m. Monday, according to the Sheriff's Office. They said Tuesday that the investigation is now a double homicide.

According to investigators, deputies were called to do a wellness check on Martha Cardin after she missed several shifts at Florida Hospital, where she works. When deputies arrived, they found her and her son dead inside the home.

“We are shocked and saddened by the tragic loss of our longtime Florida Hospital East Orlando Nutritional Services employee, Martha Cardin. Martha’s extraordinarily caring personality will be profoundly missed by the countless lives she touched,” Florida Hospital said in a statement.

Details on the circumstances of their death have not been released, but investigators are searching for 50-year-old Robert Joseph Cardin, who was last seen driving a black Dodge Journey with Florida tag CJI-G21. A family member told News 13 that Robert Cardin is Martha's son and Steven's brother.

Cardin's "prior prison history," according to the Florida Department of Corrections includes charges of home invasion, burglary, grand theft motor vehicle, drug offensives and intimidation of a witness, among others.

“We kept telling her not to let him back in the house, but it’s her son, and she let him back in," said Willy Schmidt, the brother of victim Martha Cardin. "But as far as him getting along with his mother, there was no problem. It was his brother he was having a problem with. It’s a shame.”

There is a $5,000 reward for information on this case and Cardin's whereabouts. Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477).
