Police said one man died in the collision.

The crash happened around 7:30 p.m. Friday at Big Tree and South Nova Road.

Police said Andrus Holmes, 50, ran a red light and struck a vehicle driven by Kenneth McDonald, 64.

McDonald was transported to Halifax Medical Center where he died from his injuries.

McDonald was only .75 miles from his home at the time of the crash.

Police said they received several calls in reference to Holmes reckless driving, running red lights, speeding, and swerving.

Witnesses who saw the crash told police that Holmes walked away from the crash on his cell phone, yelling for someone to come pick him up.
