A Wal-Mart employee has been arrested in connection with the discovery of 76 bluish-colored $100 bills at a Deltona Wal-Mart, deputies stated.

  • Bills had 'FOR MOTION PICTURE USE ONLY,' deputies say
  • Investigators: Matias-Cruz seen on video at Wal-Mart safe

Xiomara Matias-Cruz of Deltona was charged with grand theft and obtaining property by fraud on Monday night after investigators with the Volusia County Sheriff's Office and Wal-Mart discovered counterfeit $100 bills, stated deputies.

It started when store employees noticed that a pack of $100 notes that were in the store's safe looked a bit off, according to authorities.

"On closer inspection: $7,600 in bills from the middle of the pack of $100 notes were counterfeit. They weren’t just bluish. They had a different thickness, texture and were printed with the words 'FOR MOTION PICTURE USE ONLY,'" deputies stated in a news release.

After reviewing surveillance videos, the 32-year-old Matias-Cruz was observed going into the safe, looking at the package of money that was kept in the safe for further investigation, made a phone call and "appeared to take something from the bundle," according to investigators.

Matias-Cruz left the Wal-Mart and drove off after only starting her shift 15 minutes before, authorities stated.

Another surveillance video apparently showed Matias-Cruz opening the safe and reaching in her pockets and holding cash in her hand, authorities said.

No bond has been set.
