We started 2017 like we ended 2016: warmer and drier than normal.

We had a couple of cold fronts bring us some rain and a brief cool down, but that didn't make up for those mid 80s and dry weeks in the middle of the month. Let’s talk numbers.

Here are record temperatures set in January:

  • Orlando - Jan. 3 tied record high of 86. That record goes back to 1967.
  • Melbourne - Jan. 3 tied record high of 86. That record goes back to 1967. On Jan. 22 we had a record high of 87. The old record was 86 in 2007.
  • Daytona Beach - Jan. 3 tied record high of 83. That record goes back to 2015. On Jan. 22 we had a record high of 85. The old record was 83 in 1937.

The average temperatures in January were very warm but none were in the top 10 warmest on record:

  • Orlando - Monthly average was 64.6 degrees which was 4.4 degrees above normal.
  • Melbourne - Monthly average was 64 degrees which was 3.7 degrees above normal.
  • Daytona Beach - Monthly average was 62.5 degrees which was 4.6 degrees above normal.
